About
A civil engineer by profession, Badon Sing Tisso graduated from Assam Engineering College, Guwahati. Beyond his technical expertise, Tisso is deeply passionate about showcasing the cultural heritage of the Karbi community through structural designs. Since 2017, he have been creating and exhibiting innovative structures inspired by Karbi culture, tradition, folk tales, myths, and belief systems at the Karbi Youth Festival held every year. Currently he is serving as an Executive Engineer in the PWRD Department, Dokmoka Division, Karbi Anglong, Assam.
Experiences
His work focuses on utilizing low-cost, locally available materials such as bamboo to craft colorful and meaningful installations. Each structure is uniquely named to reflect the Karbi traditions, aiming to attract and inspire the younger generation. Tisso says “ I actively engage skilled local laborers to contribute their expertise in bamboo craftsmanship, promoting community participation and preserving traditional methods.” Through his creations, Badon Sing Tisso strives to deliver meaningful messages about the importance of his Karbi roots and rich cultural heritage to the youth of today. “While I do not author books, I let my structures speak volumes about the vibrant Karbi culture and Tradition.” adds Tisso.
Recognition
Tisso is a recipient of the Nirab Sadhak Bota-2024, awarded by the Dispur Press Club, Guwahati, Assam in recognition of his contributions to the Karbi community in preserving and promoting its rich cultural heritage.
