The Centre for Karbi Studies is a pioneering institution that primarily focuses on the comprehensive study of the Karbi community, its rich culture, language, history, and social dynamics. Its core mission is to conduct in-depth research, document, and archive valuable Karbi resources, ensuring the preservation of both tangible and intangible aspects of Karbi heritage for future generations. The Centre is also dedicated to fostering a culture of research and intellectual curiosity among young minds. It annually organizes workshops and seminars at regional, national, and international levels, all under the able leadership of Dr. Dharamsing Teron.
About Her :
Currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at Diphu Government College. Ms Katharpi hold a Master’s degree in English from Gauhati University and an MPhil from Vinayaka Missions University. In addition, she have passed her B.Ed examination and cleared SLET to further affirm her academic qualifications. Presently she is also pursuing her PhD in Linguistics and Language Technology from Tezpur University, where her research explores the intricate relationships between language, culture, and identity, delving into the intricacies of orthography and suprasegmental properties of Karbi language.
Academic Interests :
Her academic interests are centered around the intersections of language, folklore, gender roles, and power structures, particularly through the lens of postcolonial theory. She is deeply engaged with concepts such as hegemony, subalternity, space and hybridity, examining how these ideas shape cultural dynamics and social identities in postcolonial contexts. She seeks to contribute to the understanding of how language and culture both reflect and resist colonial legacies, as well as how they evolve in the face of modern socio-political challenges.
