STUDENT’S VOICE

My name is Kabon Derapi. I am from Mentila, Diphu.Currently working in a contractual position at Assam Gramin Vikash Bank, Diphu Branch.

I joined Heritage Learning Program (HLP) to improve myself.
Through this course, I have improved my English speaking skills a lot, as well as my writing skills. I learned how to write essays, reports and applications. I also learned about English grammar and parts of speech. Through HLP I also learned about gender inequality and how this relates to my life. I’m very thankful for HLP.

My goal for myself is to be a good daughter. Every morning and every night I want to study deeply with concentration. I want to get good marks and receive my BA. After that I will help my family financially. Now, I want to help create positive change in my family. I will share with them everything I learned in HLP, so they can use the tools and improve themselves like I did.

There are many poor people in my village. People struggle with alcohol and roaming around without motivation. One of the things I want to share with them is NVC. This tool is very important to me, especially understanding the connection between behavior, feelings, needs, action, and responsibility. I will help others to understand these concepts by sharing my experience. Gender inequality is another critical issue. I want to change the mentality of families who raise boys and girls differently, and the negativity women face in society. There is no difference between boys and girls, so we should treat them equally. I will also help others to create their own life maps – to think about goals for themselves, their families and communities. I will also encourage the youth to join HLP. If these young people can gain self-understanding and confidence through HLP, there will be positive development in my village.
